Hi, I'm Emelie.
I taught myself to code in middle school, driven by curiosity of this *impossible to understand* subject.
In high school I started a Harry Potter-inspired role-playing community, built with a friend as part of a student business initiative (UF).
The project ended up winning a regional award and showed me what it feels like to make something people engage with and enjoy spending time with.

After high school I freelanced in web development for a few years, until 2014 when I co-founded a design firm. Working alongside my graphic-designer cofounder was a turning point for me: I fell in love with design. I learned how to shape brand concepts, involve clients and users in the creative process, and connect visual form with interaction.
Running the design company gave me deep experience in multiple areas. Doing UI design work, web development, foundational accessibility research in VR environments and being recognized for innovative packaging design in the "Omforma" design exhibition in Malmö.
When the pandemic hit, we made the decision to close the company and continue our careers separately.

Since 2022, I’ve been studying, I am now in the Master of science engineering program in Human–Computer Interaction, combining my hands-on experience with a deep dive into research, design theory, mathematics and computer science.
Alongside my studies, I work as a Teaching Assistant - a role that sharpens my own practice and knowledge by challenging me to explain and expand on every decision. I also take on projects that I finds engaging, latest with Arctic Center of Energy, this summer.
I design interactions that are usable, memorable, and feel human, across code, form, and experience. My goal is to do so, really well.
My Skillset
Design
I am studying for a masters in civil engineering design at Umeå Univerity and working as a designer and a teaching assistant in interaction design. So I would say this is my main field, which is great since it can include almost anything. I am experienced in using Figma and similar design and prototyping tools, most of the Adobe Creative Suite, doing UX Research with methods such as participatory design, and thematic analysis, as well as working with graphic design and UI design gestalt principles and heuristics.
Project management
I have developed my project management skills through building a design company in 2014, to managing projects at NGO's and taking project courses that trained me in agile methodologies.
Frontend and backend development
My career started as a freelance web designer, and as such, in 2011, I had do be able to do most things on my own, so I learned not only HTML, CSS and JavaScript, but also PHP and SQL.
From there over the years I have evolved my skills into a stack that is always growing. As anyone in this space knows it's turning away from the skills of specific languages and by time turning more into a skillset of thinking like an information architect, knowing something about a lot of stacks and where to apply them, how to learn and implement knowledge fast, having a knowledge of structure and strategy as well as being able to utilize modern tools to write code that is both modern and up to standards.
